Sandra Schillling and Mark Baumann will talk about ethical and alternative business practices at the Washington State Bar Association’s 3rd annual Small Town and Rural Summit in Ellensburg, Washington.
Sandra Schilling is counsel for the WSBA’s Professional Responsibility Program, and is a host for the WSBA Ethics Hotline.
Mark Baumann is a lawyer with a private family law practice, and is the owner of the Integrative Client Counseling Institute.
Ms. Schilling will cover relevant Rules of Professional Conduct.
Mr. Baumann will discuss what PAYG, LAAoR, and NOLA’s are and how to use them to improve client satisfaction, lawyer satisfaction, and for improving access to justice. Pay-as-you-go is a simple billing system. LAAoR involves clarifying for clients that service can be provided as a lawyer, attorney, or attorney-of-record.
As a lawyer, services include counseling, planning, ghost writing pleadings, and coaching. In attorney mode, a lawyer can negotiate and appear at settlement conference or mediation. Attorney-of-record is the traditional litigator mode, but can be done by using a Notice of Limited Appearance for one or more segments of a case.
